Rowfern Privacy Policy

Effective date: 21 October 2026

1 Who is responsible for Rowfern

Rowfern is provided by Glintside ("we", "us" or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the Rowfern Android phone app and its Wear OS companion app (together, the "App"), or contact us about Rowfern.

For privacy enquiries, contact hello@glintside.com.

2 Information stored and used on your devices

Rowfern does not require a Rowfern account. We do not operate a Rowfern server for storing your projects.

The phone app stores the information you create, enter or import, including:

The App uses this information to display and organise your projects, maintain counters and progress, provide reminders, and perform the import, export and watch functions you choose to use. Project content is stored in the App's local storage rather than uploaded to a Rowfern project-storage service.

When you import a pattern or image, Rowfern keeps its own copy. Deleting the original file from your device or storage provider does not delete the copy imported into Rowfern.

3 Information exchanged with your watch

When you use the Wear OS companion app, Rowfern exchanges the information needed for watch-based counting and synchronisation between your phone and watch. This includes project names, counter rules, relevant project context and progress. Rowfern does not send pattern documents, notes or photographs to the watch through this synchronisation feature.

The exchange uses Google's Wearable Data Layer, which is part of Google Play services. Data may travel directly over Bluetooth or through Google-owned servers, depending on the available connection. Google states that Data Layer traffic routed through its cloud is end-to-end encrypted. This transfer is not a Rowfern cloud backup service.

The watch stores working data locally. It may also retain recovery copies of previous project context, counter history and progress that has not yet been synchronised. Section 5 explains how long these copies remain and how to remove them.

4 Services and features that involve other providers

Importing and exporting files

Rowfern uses Android's document picker to access files and export content to the location you select. A selected storage provider may be a local app or a cloud service. When you choose a cloud provider, files may be transferred to or from that provider under its own terms and privacy policy. Exported copies are separate from Rowfern's local app data.

Taking photographs and opening links

If you use a camera feature, Rowfern opens a camera app and provides temporary access to the file location needed to return the photograph. External links open in a browser or another app. Those apps and the services you visit handle information under their own privacy policies.

Purchases

Purchases are processed through Google Play Billing. Rowfern receives purchase information from Google Play to check purchase status, acknowledge purchases and determine access to paid features. The App keeps local information about your entitlement, verification status and associated timestamps.

Rowfern does not directly receive your full payment-card details. Google handles the payment information you provide to Google Play. Removing Rowfern's local app data does not remove Google's purchase records.

Google's handling of information through its services is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

Contacting us

If you email us, we receive the sender information, message and any attachments you provide. We use that information to address your enquiry and related follow-up. Email services used to send and receive your message also process it. Only send project files or other personal information that is relevant to your request.

Support correspondence is separate from the App's local storage. Removing the App does not delete messages you have sent to us. You can contact hello@glintside.com to ask about the information held in that correspondence or request its deletion.

5 Retention and deletion

Phone data

Project information remains in the phone app until you delete it using the App's controls or remove the App's stored data. Deleting a project removes its associated records and imported content held by the phone app. A project cannot be deleted while it remains assigned to the watch; remove that assignment first.

Clearing Rowfern's app storage or fully uninstalling the phone app removes its app-private data from that phone. Clearing the cache alone is not the same as clearing app storage. Archiving an app may preserve its data and is not a substitute for deletion.

Watch data and recovery copies

Recovery copies on the watch do not expire automatically. They remain in Rowfern's local watch storage until you clear Rowfern's app storage on the watch or fully uninstall Rowfern from the watch. There is no in-app control to delete these recovery copies individually.

Clearing app storage or uninstalling the watch app also removes other Rowfern data stored on that watch, including progress that has not yet been synchronised. Synchronise any progress you wish to keep before doing so. Use the device's app-storage or uninstall controls; their names and availability can vary by device. Clearing the watch app's cache alone does not remove its stored recovery copies.

Deleting a phone project or removing the phone app does not, by itself, delete retained watch recovery copies. Similarly, removing Rowfern's watch data does not delete projects held on your phone.

Copies outside the App

Deleting data in Rowfern does not delete original files, exported files or copies held by another app or storage provider. Manage those copies through the relevant app or provider. Google Play records and support correspondence are also separate from the App's local storage, as explained in Section 4.

6 Data protection and backup

Rowfern stores app-managed data in app-specific storage protected by Android's access controls. It uses the platform's document picker and temporary file-access permissions for the file operations described above. Watch transfers use the protections provided by Google's Wearable Data Layer.

Rowfern is configured to exclude its app-managed data from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer. This does not control backups or copies created by another app, an export destination or a storage provider you choose. Do not rely on automatic Android backup to preserve your Rowfern projects.

These measures do not make a device or transmission immune to unauthorised access or loss. Protect access to your phone and watch and take care when choosing where to export files.

7 Your choices and privacy rights

You can control the information you enter or import, whether to use watch synchronisation, and where to save exported files. The deletion options and their limits are explained in Section 5. We cannot remotely retrieve or delete project content held only in the App's local storage.

Depending on the law applicable to your circumstances and the information concerned, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or obtain a copy of personal information, restrict or object to certain processing, or complain to a relevant data protection authority. These rights are subject to the conditions and exceptions in the applicable law.

For questions or requests concerning our handling of your information, email hello@glintside.com. For information held independently by Google or a storage provider, use that provider's privacy controls or contact channels.

8 Changes to this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated to reflect changes to Rowfern or its information-handling practices. Any revised version will display its effective date. Additional notice will be provided where required by applicable law.
